Second Sight

It may be beautiful on the outside, but who knows what's inside?
Hello, reader! This week's story comes to us from Japan. Second Sight is a story about a wise father and a daughter who's bad with money. Click the link above to read it and continue with me below to analyze.

First of all, I am in awe of this father. He knew his daughter so well! And he had such a creative solution for his problem. I would have never thought of that. Then again, nowadays we have trusts and such for just this sort of problem. But there's something much more amazing about an adept pulling money almost out of thin air. It also helps that the father was an adept, otherwise the daughter may have never found the rest of her inheritance.

We also have to look at the daughter in this story. Obviously, she wasn't good with money and her father knew that. The only thing I'm missing in this story is her learning a lesson about how to manage her money. It doesn't really help her to have this large sum of money dropped in her lap 10 years after her father died if she still doesn't know how to manage it. She'll just spend it all and be penniless now instead of 10 years previous. I suppose at least she has the inn to make an income, but if this man was the only one staying there that night, it might not be doing too well. I'm truly hoping she learned something from this whole adventure, but there's no proof to say she did.

Finally, we have the adept who's alive in this story. He's walked into a heck of a situation. He's probably never seen this woman in his life and she's demanding he pay back a debt. He handles this surprisingly well. He doesn't try to run, or get the police (if such a thing were possible and would have helped in Japan way back in the day...) Instead, he pulls out his curtain to see into the beyond and figure out what's really going on. Dang. I wish I could be an adept! Problem solving seems so much easier.

The moral of this story is if you know your daughter is terrible with money, hide the rest and depend on someone else to find it for her. Alternatively, being an adept is like having a cheat code at life. We should all become adepts!
